Registered Professional Engineer Dan Madrzykowski has conducted research in the areas of fire suppression, fire dynamics, fire investigations, and firefighter safety at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for more than 22 years.


Madrzykowski has conducted a wide variety of fire scene investigation and analyses, including the oil well fires in Kuwait, post-earthquake fires in Japan, the Station Night Club fire in Rhode Island, and the Cook County Administration Building in Illinois.


He and his team have used the measurement and modeling tools developed by NIST to analyze fire phenomena related to firefighter line of duty deaths. These simulations have been used for training by the firefighters around the world.


Madrzykowski is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and serves on several NFPA technical committees and the Research Section. He is a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and serves on their board of directors. He is also a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators and has assisted with training programs on fire dynamics that are available at cfitrainer.net and through the National Fire Academy.
